this story tells us about a family of farmers and particulary about their daughter fern. when she woke up in the morning and went to the kitchen to have her breakfast, she saw her father with an ax. fern was very suprised to see it and tried to find out what was going on. her mother explained her, that the night before some pigs had been born and one of them was too weak. at first fern couldn't understand the purpose of the ax, but when she finaly realized that she was very much upset. she ran after her father and tried to persure him not to kill that poor pig. she thought that was very unfair. her father explained her that it was not an easy thing to bring up such a small pig. finally, when fern asked her father if she had been very small at birth, would he had killed her, her father gave up. he promissed not to kill that little pig and to give it to fern.  when she came back to the kitchen a box with the pig was already there. fern was so happy that she kissed her mother and father. fern's  mother had found baby's nursing bottle and she fed the pig. when fern was going to school by school bus, she decided to name her pet - wilbure. she thought that  was the most beautifull name in the world.
