The grand canyon is a steep-sided canyon, carved by the colorado river in the united states in the state of arizona. it is considered to be one of the seven natural wonders of the world. today, the canyon is one mile deep and about 450 kilometres long. the grand canyon is one of america’s main tourist attractions, attracting about five million visitors a year. it is so big that you must go there yourself to feel its true size and beauty. for thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by native americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. the native inhabitants of this places indians- paiute called this natural wonder kaibab, which means the mountain that has been put upside down. the grand canyon is not the deepest canyon in the world nor the widest; however, it is known for its visually overwhelming size and its intricate and colorful landscape. it’s interesting that there are different kinds of plants and animals on opposite sides of the canyon. the south side is dry and desert country. the north side has tall forests. the canyon looks different at different times of day, and in different seasons and weather. at sunrise and sunset the red, gold, brown, and orange colors of the rocks are especially clear and bright.  гранд-каньон   - одно из глубочайших ущелий, вырезанное рекой колорадо в сша, в штате аризона. оно считается одним из семи природных чудес света. сегодня каньон имеет глубину  около одной мили (1500-1700м) и длину около 450 километров.гранд-каньон является одной из главных туристических достопримечательностей америки, привлекая около пяти миллионов посетителей в год. он настолько большой, что вы должны побывать там сами, чтобы почувствовать его истинный размер и красоту. за тысячи лет его площадь была постоянно населена коренными американцами, которые строили населенные пункты в каньоне и его многочисленных пещерах. коренные жители индейцы - пайют называют это чудо природы кайбаб, что означает гора, которую перевернули. гранд-каньон не самый глубокий каньон в мире, не самый широкий; однако, известен, своим визуально подавляющим размером и затейливым и красочным пейзажем. интересно, что существуют различные виды растений и животных на противоположных сторонах каньона. южная сторона, сухая и пустынная. северная сторона имеет высокие леса. каньон выглядит по-разному в разное время суток и в разные сезоны и погоду. на восходе и закате солнца красные, золотые, коричневые и оранжевые цвета скал особенно четкие и яркие.
