Central park of culture and recreation . taras shevchenko originally called the alexander in honor of emperor alexander ii.  founded in 1840, its boundaries are on the streets marazlievskaya , assumption and lidersovskiy boulevard .  here strolled zhukovsky, gogol , ostrovsky , dostoyevsky, chekhov, akhmatova in the place where there was an artillery battery , pushkin met its officers.  mound with the alexander column ( near the stadium nmp) is partially located on the site of turkish hadjibeyan and then odessa fortress. hence, first launched in the russian empire balloons .  at one time in the park built green theatre , who remembers voting utesova , raikin tarapunka and plugs , piekha , water . in 1936 it built the central stadium , and in 1954 the park was renamed in from alexander shevchenko.  here is the hall of fame with the graves of members of odessa's liberation from the nazis and the monument of the unknown sailor with an eternal flame monument shevchenko ( from the street marazlievskaya ) obelisk soldiers in afghanistan .
