Его задаем при вопросов: who? (кто? ) и what? ( если речь о живом (одушевленном) субъекте, применяем  who , все остальное — предметы, события и явления, требуют использования слова  what .примеры:   who read this book? – кто читал эту книгу? what is there on the wall? – что находится там на стене? общий вопрос нуждается во глаголе –   to do, который не переводится на , так как просто построить вопросительное предложение.если во временной форме, которую мы используем, спрашивая кого-либо, уже в наличии есть -to be или -to have, они же и будут глаголами в вопросе.так же есть  глагол to have, который и будет , -to be   здесь не нужен.
