The  history of animal testing   goes back to the writings of the  greeks   in the 4th and 3rd centuries bce, with  aristotle   (384-322 bce) and  erasistratus   (304-258 bce) among the first to perform experiments on living animals.  galen , a physician in 2nd-century  rome , dissected pigs and goats, and is known as the "father of  vivisection."  avenzoar , an  arabic physician   in 12th-century  moorish spain   who also practiced  dissection , introduced animal testing as an  experimental   method of testing surgical procedures before applying them to human patients.

Вобщем, есть такая вещь, как артикли «а», «аn» и «the». почему они нужны? ну, начнём с «». артикли «а» и «аn» произошли от слова one — один. это указывает на то, что предмет один (любой! предмет один). а артикль «the» происходит от слова «that», которое указывает на один предмет, но на конкретный. если мы скажем «a cat», то мы будем иметь ввиду просто кошку. а если мы скажем «the cat», то мы будем говорить о той самой кошке с облезлым хвостом (например). а так, если тебе не важно что это, а просто тебе известно, что это такое, то нужно говорить «а» в тех случаях, где слово начинается с согласной. а в данном случае, в словосочетании «an american» мы говорим про американца. но тут артикль «an», потому что слово «american» начинается с гласной.
