Conrad was a cat. one day his family went to visit some friends. so they took conrad in the car and went to visit their friends. when conrad got to the friends’ house, he said, “this is not my house. i don’t like it. i am going home.” and he ran away. in an hour conrad saw a house and a lady in front of it. but it wasn’t his house. he said to the lady in cat language, “could you tell me the way to my house? ” the lady didn’t answer his question. she didn’t know cat language and she didn’t know the way to conrad’s house. she said, “some milk? here is some milk.” conrad drank some milk, because he was hungry. “well, thank you. good-bye,” conrad said and ran away. something inside him said, “go to this road.” so he went to the road then he saw two sighs on the road. one sign pointed this way, another pointed that way. conrad studied the signs, but he didn’t know what the signs said. something inside him said, “go to the right road.”so he went to the right road. then he saw a car service station. he thought may be the service station man might know cat lanwguage. so he said, “i don’t have my car today but could you tell me…” “some water? ” said the service station man. “here is some water.” conrad drank some water. it was no use to ask questions! “thank you. good-bye,” conrad said. something inside him said, “walk on that field,” so he walked on the field. he caught a field-mouse and ate it. he found a river and drank some water. he ran on day and night, and his fit became very tired he said to himself, “what will my family say? they will say, ‘oh, what a foolish cat! he can’t talk english. can’t read signs. we don’t want such a foolish cat! ’ ” conrad felt worse and worse, but ran on the road. and one day conrad saw his house! here was his family! he called, “here i am! ” conrad’s family went to the yard. conrad said, “oh, i am so glad to be home! ” and conrad’s family cried, “conrad is here! he is so glad to be home! ” conrad said, “i tried to ask some people the way…” his family cried, “he couldn’t read the signs, but he is here! ” conrad said, “i tried to see what the signs said…” his family cried, “he couldn’t read the signs, but he is here! conrad, you are a clever cat! ” “am i? ” asked conrad. then conrad’s family gave him a big dinner. conrad   began to eat. he stopped and said to himself, “i’m a clever cat.” he ate some more. he stopped and said to himself, “i am a clever cat.” then conrad ate the rest of his dinner and fell asleep. жил-был кот конрад. однажды его семья решила навестить друзей. они взяли конрада с собой в машину и поехали к друзьям. когда конрад попал в дом друзей, он сказал: «это не мой дом! мне он не нравится. я пойду к себе домой! » и убежал. через час конрад увидел дом и леди перед ним. но это был не его дом. он спросил у леди на кошачьем языке: «вы не подскажите мне дорогу к дому? » леди не ответила ему. она не знала ни кошачьего языка, ни дороги к его дому. она спросила: «хочешь молочка? вот немножко». конрад попил немного молока, потому что был голоден и сказал: «что ж, ! до свидания! »,- и убежал. что-то внутри него подсказывало: «иди этой дорогой». так он и сделал. потом он увидел дорожные знаки. один показывал в одну сторону, другой – в другую. конрад учил знаки, но что эти означали – он не знал. что-то внутри него подсказывало: «иди этой дорогой». и он побежал дальше. потом он увидел станцию автомобильного техобслуживания. он подумал: «может автомеханик знает кошачий язык? » конрад сказал: «я сегодня без машины, но может, вы подскажите мне…» «воды? » - спросил автомеханик. «вот, попей водички! » конрад попил воды. задавать вопросы не было смысла. он сказал: «, до свидания». что-то внутри него подсказывало: «иди тем полем». и он пошел по полю. конрад поймал полевую мышку и съел ее, потом нашел речку и попил воды. он бежал весь день и всю ночь, лапки устали! конрад сказал себе: «что подумает   моя семья? », они скажут: «какой глупый кот! не умеет говорить по-, не понимает дорожных знаков! нам не нужен такой глупый кот! » конрад чувствовал себя все хуже и хуже, но все равно продолжал бежать по дороге. и, наконец, конрад увидел свой дом! здесь его семья! он замяукал: «вот он я! » вся семья выбежала во двор. «как я рад вернуться домой! » - промяукал конрад,   а семья повторяла: «конрад вернулся, смотрите, как он рад родному дому! » конрад промяукал: «я пытался узнать у прохожих дорогу…» а радовались: «он не мог спросить дорогу, но все равно он здесь! » конрад мяукал: «я пытался понять что написано на знаках…» а семья вторила: «он не мог прочесть дорожные знаки, но все равно он здесь! какой умный кот! » «я? умный? » - спросил конрад. семья конрада приготовила ему большой ужин. конрад начал есть, потом остановился и сказал себе: «я умный кот! » потом поел еще немного, остановился и повторил: «я умный кот! » конрад съел все до последней крошки и крепко уснул.
