Each family must have their traditions, their family holidays. In my family, we often remember funny events that happened to us. These memories create in the house a warm and cordial atmosphere. We love to carry out domestic holidays. For us it is first of all the smiles, laughter, gifts, friends, relatives, people with whom I want to meet up and chat. Family holidays are prepared together and look forward to getting them. All that unites us and brings joy. The holidays are unforgettable events in our family. Family holidays we celebrate at home, in an interesting trip. Often we join the friends of parents whose children have become my friends. I think that is good in this holiday home, which is attended by both adults and children. This evening the children with their parents is the bridge that unites the family.

2 I was sure they didn't want to talk with me - they all looked so cool. I was too shy, I hoped somebody talked to me first.

5 Music has always been one of my hobbies and I was about saying something about it when one of the class leaders asked me to help organise a contest about the latest groups and singers.

Every day we are surrounded by all possible types of mass media: newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the Internet. Mass media play an important role in our life. They inform about events in the world, they entertain us at any time of day and night and they influence our opinions.

Print mass media include newspapers, books and magazines. In the twentieth century, they became less popular because of the technological progress and the new inventions.

Broadcast media include, first of all, radio and television. These were the new inventions that partially replaced books and papers in the twentieth century. They made possible a more quick transmission of information. Moreover, television has become an extremely popular entertainment for everybody who has a TV set at home. There are hundreds of channels. Millions of people still watch movies and TV shows every day.

Recently, though, all the previous types of mass media have given way to the newest, revolutionary service – the Internet. One can read paper articles and books, listen to broadcasted programs and music, watch videos, including online transmissions of the TV channels, and everything at one place: on the Internet. It is very convenient. Almost everybody can access the Internet via their mobile phones now. It is an instant way of transmitting information worldwide.

In my opinion, the Internet is the best invention of the twentieth century. It is a fantastic thing that allows people to use knowledge and experience of the whole human community. I never read newspapers or watch television, I use the Internet instead. I can find there any information I need – from books for my studies to recipes and dance video lessons.

К печатным СМИ относятся газеты, книги и журналы. Они стали менее популярными в двадцатом веке из-за технического прогресса и новых изобретений.

К средствам вещания относятся, прежде всего, радио и телевидение. Это и были те новые изобретения, которые отчасти заменили книги и газеты в двадцатом столетии. Они сделали возможной более быструю передачу информации. Более того, телевидение стало невероятно популярным развлечением для всех, у кого есть дома телевизор. Существуют сотни каналов. Миллионы людей смотрят фильмы и телешоу каждый день.

В последнее время, однако, все эти виды СМИ уступили место новейшему, революционному виду связи – Интернету. Можно читать статьи из газет и книги, слушать трансляции программ и музыки, смотреть видео, в том числе онлайн-трансляции телевизионных каналов, и все это в одном месте: в Интернете. Это очень удобно. Практически все сейчас имеют доступ в Интернет на своих мобильных телефонах. Это мгновенный передачи информации по всему миру.

На мой взгляд, Интернет – лучшее изобретение двадцатого века. Это потрясающая вещь, которая позволяет людям использовать знания и опыт всего человеческого сообщества. Я никогда не читаю газеты и не смотрю телевизор, вместо этого я использую Интернет. Там я могу найти любую нужную мне информацию: начиная с книг по учебе и заканчивая рецептами и танцевальными видеоуроками.
