Task 2. read the text. mark the sentences 1-8 as true (t), false (f) or not stated (n) in your answer sheet (8 points is your style cool? what about you? this week in our series on fashion we hear an alternative opinion from young style guru tony rooney. so if you want to be top dog in the fashion stakes, if you want everyone to admire you for setting the trend then read on. setting the trend then read on. here's what you should do. firstly, being cool is all in the mind. just think cool and you are cool. confidence in yourself and your own style is very important. the actual style you choose doesn't matter at all, so why should you be a sheep and follow what other people do? take hair, for example. is short hair fashionable? that doesn't mean that you can't have long hair. i'm talking about girls and boys. be different! parents sometimes say, 'you have to get your hair cut, ' but do they have a good reason? they probably want you to look like everyone else. similarly, if long hair was in vogue, you could go for a new look and cut yours short. the second rule is this: don't worry what other people think. how do they know what's best for you? if everyone was wearing polo tops, would you jump on the bandwagon? you don't have to. if you want to wear a t-shirt instead, you can. eventually they'd start wearing t-shirts too, and then it would be time for you to change again. that brings us to rule number three: keep one step ahead of the crowd. that's when you know that everyone is following your fashion and you're not following theirs. now that is really cool. 1. tony rooney's opinion is the same as other fashion writers'. 2. if you look cool, it's because you believe in yourself. 3. the article is only for girls. 4. your parents probably want you to be different from other people. 5. you should cut your hair yourself. 6. rule two says 'don't be anxious about other people's opinions'. 7. it's really cool when other people copy your style. 8. teenagers like this article.
