Knowing any foreign language can be very useful in many ways. for example, if you know english, you can travel the world since english is considered as international language, use foreign web-sites (e.g. reddit), read foreign news and watch tv and be aware of what’s going on in the world. not to mention that you can read books, watch tv shows and movies in original language. in other words, knowing english gives you an opportunity to be a part of the global community.

at school we learn russian as a first language, english and german. we learn grammar of those languages, try to memorize new words and keep improving our skills on lessons. even though our teachers do their best to teach us those languages, i believe that a person should understand why he needs to learn it and make an effort to learn it by himself. like one wise teacher on the internet said: “i can teach you the language, but i can’t learn it for you”.  

there are many ways to learn a language. many people say that the most effective way to learn a language is to surround yourself with the language you’re trying to learn. for instance, i want to learn french. apart from just learning from the textbook, i should watch french movies, try to read newspaper in french, listen to music and find a french tutor or a pen pal from french-speaking country. when you learn a language, you should constantly train your reading, speaking, listening and writing skills in your target language. also, there is an interesting opinion that if you want to learn easily other language, you should first understand the structure of your own language. i strongly agree with that so before you start learning any other language, be sure that you don’t have troubles with your own.
