Scottish Gaelic is mainly spoken in the north west of the country, by a small proportion of the population. Welsh has a much bigger number of people speaking the language and all public signs in Wales are displayed in both Welsh and English.

In the north Atlantic off north west Europe there is a beautiful country called Ireland (or the Republic of Ireland). It is an English-speaking country although it also has its own language.

Its capital and largest city is Dublin, which is located on the eastern side of the island. The country isn't big, there are about 5 million people living there. The Irish are friendly and hospitable people who are famous for their wit and humour.

Ireland is known for its natural beauty. There are breathtaking seascapes and green hills, lakes and river valleys, old monasteries and castles.
