My favourite Belarusian writer is Yanka Maur, whose real name is Ivan Mikhailavich Fiodarau. He is one of the founders of the Belarusian children literature.

He was born in 1883. His father died when Ivan was still a little boy, but his mother did her best to make her son a well-educated person. In 1903 Ivan became a geography and history teacher. He also learnt Esperanto, which later helped him to gather information and write books about faraway countries. When we read his books it is hard to believe that their author never visited those places depicted in them.
