Sir Walter Raleigh (was) an English traveller who (lived) in England in the days of Queen Elizabeth. He (sailed) across the seas to America in search of new lands. He (brought) to England two very important plants: the tobacco plant and the potato. When he (was) in America, he (learnt) to smoke from the Indians. When he (was) back in England, he (was sitting) one day in his room by the fire smoking a pipe. His old servant who (knew) nothing about tobacco or smoking, suddenly (came) into the room and (saw) the smoke coming out of his master's mouth. He (was) frightened: he (thought) Sir Raleigh (was) on fire. He (rushed) out of the room, (got) some water and (threw) it all over his master before Sir Walter (could) explain that he was simply (smoking). Sir Raleigh (brought) the potato to his country because he (wanted) the people (to learn) how (to grow) potatoes.
