Рассказ - это худож. повест. изложение небольшого размера, обычно пишется просто и на одну тему.
Поэма - это произведение, которое пишется в стихотворной форме с сюжетом, в ней может быть несколько тем. Так же обычно берутся <<легендарные>> темы.
