Every country has its own customs and traditions. English people are proud of their traditions and they keep them up. It is difficult to speak about England without speaking about its holidays. Christmas Day is among them.
All English people celebrate Christmas (or X-mas) on the 25th of December. What kind of holiday is it? It is the yearly celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It falls on December 25 by the Catholic Church and on the 7th of January by the Orthodox Church. This holiday means the beginning of the new year and the new life.
English people celebrate this holiday with the evergreen tree - Christmas tree. Children rut along sock, called a Christmas stocking at the end of their beds and Santa Claus conies down the chimney to bring them presents.
Christmas Day is the greatest holiday in England. It is interesting to visit the shops before this holiday. There are a lot of nice Christmas cards and presents there. English people like this holiday very much and prepare for it beforehand. They buy presents for each other, try to send Christmas cards for their relatives and friends.
It is interesting to visit London during this holiday. There is a Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square. We can see many lights, toys and sweets all over this tree. Everywhere you can see slogans "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".

Everybody loves holidays because during our holidays we can relax and have fun. You can do whatever you like, you don’t have to get up too early, and do your homework. You get enough time to travel, play your favorite sports and practice your hobbies. Most of all I like summer holidays because they are the longest ones. Now I’d like to tell you about my summer holidays I spent in Crimea. It was the first time I’ve been there. I’ve been dreamed to visit Crimea for many years but our family couldn’t afford this. This summer my father said we can go to the Black sea. I couldn’t believe my ears. I asked him again if he is serious, but he said he already purchased tickets on the train to Simferopol.

Summer is the best period for holidays, so many people schedule their holidays for this time of the year. Schools are also closed during summer months till September. Many schoolchildren say that it’s their favourite season of the year. I also enjoy summer holidays. We usually go to the Black Sea coast. My parents choose the city, book the hotel, buy the tickets and off we go. Sometimes we choose to go to Sochi, sometimes to Crimea. It doesn’t matter which city we visit, because sea and sun are the same everywhere and I like swimming and sunbathing very much. There are many picturesque cities and places to visit. Last year we went to Crimea. It wasn’t only a swimming and relaxing holiday. We also went on many excursions, even climbed the mountains. I can say that Crimea is one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been to. It offers great opportunities for tourists. The climate is mild, the scenery is nice and there are many interesting historic monuments. The sea was also great. We really enjoyed our stay in Crimea. There is a good chance that we’ll visit it again this year. Another perfect idea for summer holidays is going to countryside, away from the city noise. My grandparents live there and they are always happy to see us.
