The holiday of Ivan Kupala is more than two thousand years old. Traditionally, the festival is celebrated on the night of 6 to 7 July. This is perhaps the only pagan surviving holiday, which is almost not affected by Christianity. This holiday was celebrated on the territory of all Ukraine according to old folk songs.

The night of Ivan Kupala is considered magical. Only on the youth's bathing night was allowed to be naughty, flirt with each other, kissing, hugging, and so on... After Ivan Kupala's night the guy had to marry the girl with whom he was flirting.

According to the legend, on that night there was the wedding of Kupala and Marena  and it symbolized the union of the male and female principles, and two elements: Kupala as the embodiment of Fire, Marena as the embodiment of Water.

Празднику Ивана Купалы уже более двух тысяч лет. Традиционно праздник отмечается в ночь с 6 на 7 июля. Это единственный сохранившийся языческий праздник, на который почти не повлияло христианство. Этот праздник отмечался на территории всей Украины, что прослеживается по старинным песням.

Ночь Ивана Купалы считалась волшебной. Только в Купальную ночь молодёжи разрешалось шалить, флиртовать друг с другом, целоваться, обниматься и так далее... После Ивана Купалы парню надо было жениться на девушке, с которой он флиртовал.

Согласно легенде, в ту ночь была свадьба Купалы и Марены, и она символизировала союз мужского и женского начал, а также двух стихий: Купалы - как воплощения огня, Марены- как воплощения воды.
