Если существительно заканчивается на -s, -ss, -ch, -sh, -x, -o, то ставится окончание -es.

a class - classes

a church - churches

a dish - dishes

a fox - foxes

a potato - potatoes

Есть исключения. К примеру a video - videos, a photo - photos.

Если существительно заканчивается на согласную + y, то y меняется на i и добавляется окончание -es.

a cherry - cherries

a city - cities

Если существительно заканчивается на гласную + y,то добавляем Если существительное заканчивается на -f/fe,то f/fe меняется на v и добавляется окончание -es.

a wolf - wolves

a wife - wives

Есть исключения. Пример:  roof - roofs, geraffe - giraffes.

Некоторые существительные образуют множественное число не за общими правилами. У них своя, особая форма.
