      Буратіно оживає. У нього дуже довгий і гострий ніс. З-під гострою червоно-білої в смужку шапочки випадають золоті кучері, зроблені з тирси. Папа Карло одягнув Буратіно в червону сорочку з білим комірцем і білими гудзиками і в сині шорти. 
      Буратіно на самому початку постає перед нами, як егоїстичне створення, нічого не бажає робити. Він навіть не хоче вчити абетку, яку купив йому Папа Карло. Згодом він навіть тікає від нього. 
      Протягом усього твору Буратіно очікують небезпечні пригоди. Він мало не гине, його дурять Кот і Лисиця, він залишається без копійки в кишені. Тільки зустріч в черепахою Тортилли дозволяє йому усвідомити свою неправоту і егоїстичність. 
      Зрештою Буратіно проявляє хоробрість і відвагу. Він рятує своїх друзів і усвідомлює, як вони йому дороги. Буратіно повертається і надходить в трупу іграшкового театру, де немає місця смутку про небезпекам. Театр - це постійна радість і веселощі.
