Валмиера – главный город Валмиерского района, население которого составляет около 28000 человек. Расстояние от Валмиеры до Риги составляет примерно 100 километров. Название «Валмиера» в переводе с латышского языка означает «место, где царит спокойствие».

In 1944 the city was completely destroyed. The restoration of Valmiera began in the early 60-ies. From ancient buildings preserved the Orthodox Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh and the Lutheran Church of the Apostle Simon.
