Оксфорд и Кембридж -- старейшие и самые престижные университеты Великобритании. Их часто объединяют названием Оксбридж. Оба университета независимы. Только элита поступает в Оксофорд или Кебридж. Многие из студентов -- выпускники закрытых школ.

Обычная продолжительность учебного курса -- 3 года,после чего студенты получают степень бакалавра гуманитарных наук. Некоторые курсы,такие как лингвистика или медицина,могут быть на год или два дольше. Студенты также могут работать и на другие степени. Оксфорд впервые упоминается в Англосаксонской хронике в 911 н.э.,он был популярен у ранних английских королей. Самый ранний устав университета датируется 1213 годом. В наши дни есть 24 колледжей для мальчиков,5 для девочек и 5 смешанных,многие для иностранных студентов высшего образования. Среди старейших: Университетский колледж Лондона,колледж Всех душ и Крайст-Чёрч.
