Но голландцы точно не знали,на сколько простирается страна в восточном направлении,и потому в 1642 году капитан Абель Тасман был послан,дабы выяснить,как далеко восток. Тасман заплыл слишком далеко на юг и не увидел континент,но зато обнаружил остров,названный Тасманией в его честь.
