By today’s standards, my mobile phone is pretty basic. It’s a Nokia. It’s a small device that receives telephone calls and sends text messages. Other than that, my phone doesn’t do much. Most of my friends wish they had smartphones because they are cool and trendy. They say the best thing about a smartphone is that you ‘can do everything with it!’ That’s right, smartphones have many more functions than a simple phone, however, not all of them are needed. In everyday life, smartphones are used mainly for checking social networking sites, replying to emails, and playing games. Grown-ups as well as children like playing games. Anyway, I prefer my good old Nokia. It’s my first mobile phone. When I bought it, it didn’t cost me very much. And I am not afraid anyone will ever steal it. It’s also very reliable. Yesterday I dropped it. It flew down the staircase and hit the wall. I thought that was the end of it and I would have to buy a new one. But nothing of the kind – it still works properly!

Thousands of tourists visit Edinburgh every year. The capital of Scotland is famous for its history and architecture. It’s one of the cultural centres of the country. The main attraction of the city is Edinburgh Castle. It was built in the 12thcentury but it still looks magnificent and very impressive. There are many historic monuments in Edinburgh. One of them is an unusual monument to Walter Scott, a well-known writer. The city streets are usually full of noisy tourists with cameras but if you want a quiet holiday, you can have it too - the beautiful and peaceful countryside is just round the corner.

Henry asked if his mother could iron his shirt. Mother was surprised. She said that Henry  never wore anything but T-shirt and jumpers. Henry agreed. He said that they had been told that they had to wear something very formal that today, like a suit or dark trousers and a plain shirt as some important guests from the local Coucil were coming.
Mother said that she understood but she didn’t see the problem. She asked if Henry knew where the iron was.
Henry told his mum that he knew he you wouldn’t be able to cope with that and that he was am in a hurry.
Mother said that she was also in a hurry. She had got a meeting and she couldn’t put it off. She asked him not to  waste any more time.
Henry asked if she meant that he had to do the ironing himself. Mother answered affirmatively.  She asked him to  get the ironing board and put his shirt on it.
Henry said that he had done it and asked what the next step would be. Mother asked  him  to pour some water into the opening on top of the iron.
Henry cried that he had poured too much and water had spilled over onto his shirt.
Mother told him not to mind.  The water was clean: it wouldn’t spoil his shirt. Then she asked him to  plug the iron into the wall socket.
Henry cried that  it was getting really hot. He asked if he wouldn’t burn his shirt?
Mother answered negatively.  She said not if he adjusted the temperature dial to the type of fabric his shirt was made of.
Henry asked how he was supposed to know that.
Mother said that it was the steam. The iron was ready to use. She asked him to go ahead.
Henry said that it was right . It was cotton. He asked what was that sound.
Mother said that it was  written on the label.
