B5 As if presents and extra pocket money could compensate for it.
B6 Paul doesn't value expensive presents, he just takes them for granted.
B7 He was given a cool iPod for his thirteenth birthday. When I was
B8 thirteen, I didn't get anything for such a gadget, but Paul didn’t
seem to be impressed. His iPod lasted for only a few days. When I asked
B9 aim what happened to it, why it didn’t work, he just said that it
B10 had had a swim. Someone had called Paul when he was taking a bath
and he was careless enough to drop the iPod into the bath.
B11 Paul was my child, I would never buy him a new iPod,
but my parents did. They still treat him as a little boy who will become
B12 more responsible when he will grow, but I’m not sure that will ever
happen.
