Almaty is the southern capital of kazakhstan, and at the same time if the largest city of the country. officially it is more than 10 years is not the capital of the country, but it is still the important cultural and industrial center with 1,5 million of population. the city is called “southern capital”, because earlier it had the highest administrative status in the country, and it is located in southeastern part of kazakhstan, on the frontier of northern range of tien shan mountains, alatau. the name almaty is translated as “full of apples” or “father of apples”. the climate is humid continental and due to the difference of height over sea level, the temperature is often changed not only between seasons but between different hours of the day. the southern part of the city is placed rather higher than northern one. this fact is negatively reflected on ecological situation of the city: the area of high gas contamination is appeared. it is also promoted by intention of people to live and to work in the center, big quantity of cars, building and etc. but the struggle for the ecology of almaty is under way – 8 thousand of hectares of city area is occupied with parks, gardens, alleys and boulevards. it is worth to notice that almaty is in the top 30 most expensive cities of the world, and in some parts of the city it can seems to you that you are in one of the european megalopolises – the abundance of billboards and highways jammed with new foreign cars is everywhere. but the city has its own color: some time ago, during the mass settlement, the residential districts (so-called dormitory districts) were constantly built here, which were divided among the representatives of different nations, settled in almaty, and acquired its unique national features, by which you can recognize the belonging of this or that quarter to certain diasporas. also city has two rivers – bolshaya and malaya almatinka. more than 40 years ago the water reservoir was created on the bolshaya almatinka, which became the recreational zone for many townspeople. and about 15 minutes’ drive outside the city there is the well-known skating stadium “medeu” and alpine skiing track “chimbulak”. today, the economic and cultural, administrative and political importance of new capital of kazakhstan – astana - grows more and more, but almaty – the former center of the country, taking 9th place in the world by area, still remains the bright, vivid and progressive city.

МОЙ ДРУГ ИНОПЛАНЕТЯНИН (если не считать Питера и Карен Виней). Мистер Кирк был в парке со своей собакой одним воскресным вечером. Вдруг он услышал шум и увидел очень странную фигуру перед собой. Это был Зардак с планеты Векон. Зардак прибыл в Лондон на летательном аппарате. Но он не прибыл в аэропорт, не зарегистрировался, не паспортный контроль или таможню. Мистер Кирк взял его домой, никому не сказав о том, что прибытии Зардака. Зардак полюбил мистера Кирка и они подружились. Но Зардак устал жить в квартире мистера Кирка. Он хотел путешествовать по стране мистера Кирка или же устроить экскурсию хотя бы по городу. 
Зардак: "Хорошо, мой дорогой друг. Когда мы сможем выйти из квартиры и посмотреть город?"
Мистер Кирк: "Эм... это довольно проблематично, Зардак. Это не самая лучшая идея".
Зардак: "Я прибыл уже два дня назад, но так ничего ещё не видел".
Мистер Кирк: "Ты смотришь телевизор".
Зардак: "Телевизор я могу смотреть и на своём звездолёте, когда я дома, на планете Векон. Ну мой друг".
Мистер Кирк: "Я же, кажется, уже сказал тебе, что это плохая идея". 
Но Зардак хотел посмотреть на Лондон. Он любил путешествовать. И путешествовал очень много. Путешествия были его хобби. Благодаря этому своему хобби он и прилетел на Землю. У Зардака были небольшие серебряные рожки на голове. С этих рожком он мог заставлять людей делать то, что он хочет. Его рожки излучают ярко-зелёный свет, и окружающие говорят и делают то, что хочет Зардак. Зардак применил своё умение и на мистера Кирка. Мистер Кирк увидел зелёный свет и сказал:
Мистер Кирк: Ох, я согласен. Пойдём в центр города. Действительно, почему бы нам не прогуляться? Я купил тебе пальто и шляпу надень их".
Зардак: "А шляпа-то зачем? Ты сам-то никогда не носил шляп".
Мистер Кирк: "Хорошо. Я тоже её надену".
Мистер Кирк и Зардак шли по улице к автобусной остановке. Они встретили миссис Эванс, старую соседку мистера Кирка, на светофоре.
Миссис Эванс: "Здравствуйте, мистер Кирк. Я так рада вас видеть. А кто этот молодой человек?"
Мистер Кирк: "Это мой племянник из Калифорнии. Его зовут Зардак". 
Миссис Эванс: "Ох! Как поживаете? Как долго вы уже гостите у нас?"
Мистер Кирк: "Он прибыл только в четверг. Гостит уже вот как два дня".
Миссис Эванс: "Что вы думаете об Англии, Зардак? Вы у нас впервые?"
Зардак: "Да. Я никогда не был здесь раньше. Здесь очень красиво".
Миссис Эванс: "А мне очень нравится ваша страна. Я была там три раза, как вы знаете. Моя сестра живёт в Лос-Анджелесе в Калифорнии. Она всегда хотела там жить. А где вы сейчас живёте?"
Зардак: "На Веконе".
Миссис Эванс: "Никогда не слышала о таком. Где..."
Мистер Кирк: "Это очень маленький город. Очень маленький".
Миссис Эванс: "Забавно, что вы говорите без американского акцента".
Мистер Кирк(смотрит на свои часы): "О, дорогой! Неужели уже столько времени? Ну, до свидания".
Миссис Эванс: "Нам действительно пора".
Мистер Кирк: "До свидания. Рад был вас повидать".
