Odesa
Odesa is the 5th largest city in Ukraine and the most important city of trade. Odesa is the largest city along the entire Black Sea. Odesa looks more like a city located on the Mediterranean, having been heavily influenced by French and Italian styles.
Odesa has always had a spirit of freedom, probably endowed to her by her location and by her ability to accept many different peoples.
Today Odesa is a city of 1,1 million people surrounded by a metro area of over 2,5 million people.
The city's industries include shipbuilding, oil refining, chemicals, metal-working and food processing. Odesa is also the home of a Ukrainian naval base and fishing fleets. Odesa is situated on terraced hills overlooking a small harbour.
The climate in Odessa is mild and dry with average temperatures in January of 2°C (29°F), and July of 22°C (73°F). Odesa averages only 35 cm (14 in) of precipitation annually. Odesa has many therapeutic resorts.
Odesa is an important cultural and educational centre. Odesa University was founded in 1865. There are numerous institutions of higher education.
The city is a diversity of people including Ukrainian, Russian, Moldavian, Greek, Romanian, Bulgarian, Caucasian, Jewish, Turkish, Vietnamese and so forth.
There are many very interesting museums and theatres in Odesa, including the famous Opera and Ballet Theatre, built in 1809.
Odesa is well-known as the capital of humour, probably due to the great variety of people and her southern location on the Black Sea. Today, Odesa is referred to as the "Pearl of the Black Sea", "Odessa Mama" and "Southern Palmira" by many.

Одеса – п'яте за величиною місто України і найважливіше торговельне місто. Одеса – найбільше місто на всьому Чорноморському узбережжі. Одеса більше схожа не середземноморське місто, дуже відчутний вплив французького й італійського стилів.
В Одесі завжди жив дух волі, можливо, через її розташування і здатність прийняти безліч різних народностей.
Сьогодні Одеса – місто з 1,1 мільйона мешканців з околицями, що населяють 2,5 мільйона жителів.
Промисловість міста включає кораблебудування, перегонку нафти, виробництво ліків, металопереробну галузь і виробництво харчових продуктів. Одеса також є базою військово-морського і рибальського флотів. Одеса розташовується на терасових пагорбах, що піднімаються над маленькою гаванню.
Клімат в Одесі помірний і сухий із середніми температурами в січні 2°С (29°F), і липні 22°С (73°F). В Одесі випадає всього 35 см (14 дюймів) опадів на рік. В Одесі багато терапевтичних курортів.
Одеса – важливий центр культури й освіти. Одеський університет був заснований у 1865 р. У місті багато вузів.
Характерна риса міста – різноманіття народностей, що проживають у ньому. Це українці, росіяни, молдавани, греки, румуни, болгари, кавказці, євреї, турки, в'єтнамці і так далі.
В Одесі багато цікавих музеїв і театрів, у числі яких знаменитий Театр Опери і Балету, побудований у 1809 р.
Одеса добре відома як столиця гумору, напевно, завдяки розмаїтості народів, що її населяють і її південному розташуванню на Чорному морі. Зараз Одесу багато хто називає "чорноморською перлиною", "Одесою-мамою" і "Південною Пальмірою".

Новый Год - это праздник в честь встречи нового года, прощание со старым. Рождество - рождение Господа. Новый Год и Рождество отличаются так сказать праздничными событиями, тем что празднуют.
Новый год – самый любимый, светлый праздник, отмечаемый всем человечеством. Праздник-волшебство, который не может обойтись без чудес. Каждый ждет в сказочную ночь не только подарков, но и появления сурового и всемогущего Деда Мороза.Новый год — праздник, отмечаемый многими народами в соответствии с принятым календарем, наступающий в момент перехода с последнего дня года в первый день следующего года.
Рождество Христово - один из главных христианских праздников, установленный в честь рождения по плоти Иисуса Христа от Девы Марии.Празднуется 25 декабря. Этот праздник сопровождается Рождественским постом.
Рождество - религиозный праздник, Новый год - календарный.

Naschmarkt in Vienna

Dear Alice, 

On the holidays my parents and I went to visit one of the oldest European capitals. Our choice was Vienna. I'm in love with this old but truely amazing city. We had a lot of excursions to different places. I'm sending you a photo of one of the oldest and most famous markets in this city. It is called Naschmarkt. It exists since 16th century and now it is the largest open air market in Vienna. I was amazed at the variety of food available.Here you can buy everything:from exotic african fruits, Middle East spieces, fresh fish from Danube to traditional Austrian kitchen like Wiener Snitzel(which is not very yammi by the way). It is very busy and the crush of the crowds can be a bit off putting if you were just expecting to stroll between the stalls and shops at a leisurely pace. Itis the best place to purchase sweets, chocolates, specialty foods to take home for gifts - and honey. We bought some sample jars from the quaint honey van, delicious. We also had a great falafel at one of the shops - one of the best falafel wraps we have ever had. 

If you come to Vienna one day, don't forget to spend some of your time on the Naschmarkt.
