Какую роль играют притяжательные местоимения в языке, и для чего они вообще нужны?

Роль играют большую, так как они определить какого человека та или иная вещь (кроме вещей может быть что-нибудь другое), например: this is her car- это её машина, his name is John- его зовут Джон. Без притяжательных местоимений мы бы не смогли нормально общаться с людьми и объяснять им чьё это имя или чья это вещь и многое другое
