Kathy looked at her new room’s white walls. “They’re so plain.” “Don’t worry,” Dad said, “If you don’t like them, we WILL MAKE the walls any colour you like.” “Do you want pink?” Mum suggested. Kathy SHOOK her head. “No, pink is either for BABIES or for silly girls who like Barbie dolls. I’m neither of those.” Her parents smiled but DIDN'T SAY anything. “But what colour to choose? I wish we COULD ask a designer for professional advice,” said Kathy. “Oh, no! It’s out of the question!” said Kathy’s mother, firmly. A designer’s advice is much MORE EXPENSIVE than we can afford.” “Ok. It was just an idea.” “Getting back to the wall colour, why not make your room yellow or orange?” Dad suggested. “When the walls ARE PAINTED in those colours, the room will look cheerful.” “Yes!” Kathy definitely liked the idea. “We’ll make three walls yellow, but the FOURTH one will be orange.” The next day, when Kathy came back from school, her Dad said: “Look what I HAVE BOUGHT.” There were paints and brushes on the floor. “Everything’s ready for us to start.” He smiled and handed Kathy the brush.

I always adored people who compose music and write poems. I think that such people are very talented. Also I believe that they can draw pictures and show their feelings by their music or poems. They can make you cry or laugh. Moreover they make you think about global problems or you may lie soft and just dream while you are listening to the music.
My parents took me to opera once or twice and I should I liked it. At first such music is not easy for perception, but gradually everything becomes clear and makes sense. Classical music can be defined in several ways. First of all the term refers to the music produced for various concerts. For centuries this music was supported by the church or government. Secondly, every ancient culture had its own classical music, be it Chinese or Indian.
Music plays an important role in my life. I simply can’t live without music. There are so many kinds of music nowadays, including rap, hip-hop, rock-n-roll, dance, classical, opera, alternative, drum & bass, techno, rock, metal, jazz, reggae, blues, etc. I like nearly all these types. When I’m sad I listen to alternative music or rock. When I’m in good mood I listen to either hip-hop or dance music. Sometimes my teacher takes us to classical concerts or operas, which I also enjoy. When there is a school disco I like dancing at rap and techno music. Once or twice I went to a jazz concert, which I thought was marvelous. At the moment my favourite band is “Linkin Park”. I love their songs and listen to them every time I get a spare minute. The reason why I like them is the unusual melody and intelligent texts. The band was formed in 1996 and was named after one of Californian parks. There are six people in the band. The most talented of all is Chester Bennington. Although I like all their songs and albums, my favourite one if “Skin to Bone”. Their songs follow different styles. Some songs refer to rock, some – to alternative style, others – to metal. Speaking of British music, I enjoy one of the oldest and non-existent now bands – “The Beatles”. I think their music will never die as it’s legendary. Reggae is another style I follow and my all-time favourite singer is Bob Marley. To sum up, I’d like to say that music can influence people. It can inspire and enrich them. It can remind of some places and times. Music is not only another art form but a powerful force, which helps us to live.
