My Parents' Professions

My parents have always been my role models. They work hard and they love what they do. My father is a ship captain and my mother is a housewife.

My dad always wanted to become a seaman. In his chilhood he read books about sea adventures. After school he entered a naval school and later he graduated from the State Maritime Academy. Dad has been working for 15 years. He says he was seasick at first, but not very long. When dad goes to sea he can be away for months. It is a sad time for mum and me, but then dad comes home and he spends a lot of time with us. He sometimes brings cool things for me such as a compass or binoculars. Dad tells us stories about his voyages and I like to listen to him.

Dad loves his job and one of the reasons for it is that he knows how much my mum and I love him and wait for him. As I have written already, mum is a housewife. I think she is the best mother in the world and a very good housekeeper. She cooks very well and she always keeps our house clean and tidy.

My parents say that a person needs to love his or her profession and do this job well. I have not chosen my future profession yet, but I know how important it is to find something that I will do with pleasure, just like my mum and dad.
