                           А spot of colour is a spot of life

Johannes Itten, a Swiss expressionist painter, designer, teacher and writer, once said: "Colour is life; for a world without colour appears to us as dead".

People have always been interested in how colours affect their health, mood, feelings and behaviour. Our feelings about certain colours are often rooted in our culture. There is a well-known example that the colour white is used in many Western countries to represent purity and innocence, while in most Eastern countries it is a symbol of mourning. Some other colours have universal meaning. For example, red, orange and yellow are known as warm colours. Blue and purple are associated with cold, sadness or indifference.

People in some ancient cultures tried using colours to treat diseases. People thought that red could be used to stimulate the body and mind, yellow could stimulate the nerves and purify the body, orange could heal the lungs and to increase energy levels.

We must decide for ourselves whether to believe in the power of colours or not, but one thing is certain for sure: if all colours disappeared from our life, then life would become much more difficult for us.
