Last year, i had the privilege of joining in with thailand's very wet new year celebrations, which 1) for three days from the 13th to the 15th of april. the owner of our hotel in bangkok told us that the songkran festival was a name for cleaning as the water was away from your worries and bad luck from the year. thais give their homes a spring clean during this time and he 2) then, on the first day, young people traditionally pour scented water into the palms of their parents and grandparents to show 3) respect. on the second day, families give gifts to the monks and then spend time together. the third day, 4) is when the real fun begins! on this day, as i found out for myself, you can't avoid getting soaking wet! had just just stepped out of the metro station when someone threw a whole bucket of water at me. i had a fantastic day participating in the water figh until the sun went down in the famous khao san road, i even witnessed an elephant 5 water all over some touristse! 1 a lasted b stayed c remained2 a previous b earlier c former 3 a theirs b them c they 4 a consequently b therefore c however 5 a to splash b splashing c splashed
