Me to London, the capital city, one of the most beautiful European cities. It is enormous, it is old, it is modern and it is fascinating. Which is the best way to begin? Maybe, from the oldest part,the city. Here London began centuries ago. One square mile on the both sides of the river Thames. It was called Londinium by the Romans, a lonely port. It is far from being lonely now, as you see. The busiest streets, the Stock Exchange, the Bank of England are all concentrated here. London is packed with history. And now we are going to the west of the City to see one of the oldest buildings in London – Westminster, the seat of the government. You can go to the Westminster Bridge to admire a beautiful view of Westminster. This is the royal residence –Buckingham palace. It has been the royal home ever since the days of Queen Victoria. You can see here one of the most spectacular ceremonies in London– the changing of the guards. Streets names in London invite you to walk. From Parliament Square you can go down to Trafalgar Square. In front of you towering over the square is the statue of Lord Nelson,hero of the battle of Trafalgar. London, big as it is, is full of breathing spaces. This is one of the best.
