Leopard, or leopard, or panther is a species of carnivorous feline mammals, one of four representatives of the panther genus (Latin Panthera), belonging to the subfamily of large cats. In the 20th century, it was listed in the IUCN Red List, in the Red Book of Russia, and also in security documents of other countries. However, in many African countries, the relatively high number of leopards makes it possible to allocate a quota for their prey annually. The first scientific description of the leopard was made by Karl Linnaeus in his work Systema naturæ, called Felis pardus.
