In Great Britain Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December. It is one of the most important public holidays.

People decorate their homes at Christmas. They put up lights and illuminated Christmas figures outside their houses. Rooms are usually decorated with garlands, candles, wreaths and different Christmas plants such as mistletoe, holly and red amaryllis.
In the living room people put up a Christmas tree which is traditionally decorated with lights, bells, candy canes and tinsel. Beautifully packed presents are put under the Christmas tree. The traditional colours of decorations are green, red and gold.

В гостиной ставят елку, которую традиционно украшают огнями, колокольчиками, леденцами и мишурой. Под елку кладут красиво упакованные подарки. Традиционные цвета рождественских украшений – зеленый, красный и золотой.

Every country has its own established system of education. Education in Ukraine receives special attention from government and other state or private educational institutions. It is free and compulsory for children aged 6 to 15. Most children start attending a primary school at the age of 6. However, there are a number of pre-school opportunities. Some busy parents take their children to the nursery, starting from 2 years old. There is also a chance to attend private kindergartens before going to school. They usually require a certain fee. Next step is primary education, which lasts for 4 years. At the age of 10 they can proceed to the secondary school, which lasts for 5 years. It’s a compulsory level. At the end of this stage children have to pass a number of state exams. This usually includes Ukrainian language and literature, Maths, foreign languages andNATURALsciences. The third level of school education lasts for two years and is optional. Some children choose to go to vocational schools or colleges. Such education may last for 3-4 years and require additional fee. Most Ukrainian teenagers today choose to continue their studies at the higher education institutions. Tertiary education may last up to 6 years. Universities in the country are either privately or state funded. Students from rural areas are allowed to get subsidized housing. Postgraduate education is also available in Ukraine. Those, who wish to continue studying after they’ve obtained a Master’s or a Specialist’s Degree, can enter the postgraduate school, called aspirantura---                                                                                                       В каждой стране своя собственная сложившаяся система образования. Оно является бесплатным и обязательным для детей в возрасте от 6 до 15 лет. Большинство детей начинают посещать начальную школу в возрасте 6 лет. Тем не менее, существует и ряд дошкольных возможностей. Некоторые занятые родители отдают своих детей в ясли, начиная с 2-х летнего возраста. Есть также возможность до школы посещать частные детские сады. Как правило, они требуют определенную плату. Следующим шагом является начальное образование, которое длится 4 года. В возрасте 10 лет они могут перейти в среднюю школу, где учатся в течение 5 лет. Это обязательный уровень. В завершение этапа, дети должны сдать ряд государственных экзаменов. Как правило, сюда входят украинский язык и литература, математика, иностранные языки и естественные науки. Третий уровень школьного образования длится в течение двух лет и не является обязательным. Некоторые дети выбираю обучение в техникумах или колледжах. Такое образование может длиться 3-4 года и требует дополнительную плату. Большинство украинских подростков сегодня предпочитают продолжать обучение в высших учебных заведениях. Высшее образование может длиться до 6 лет. Университеты в стране финансируются либо в частном порядке, либо государством. Студентам из сельской местности выделяется субсидированное жилье. Послевузовское образование также доступно в Украине. Те, кто желают продолжить обучение после получения степени магистра или специалиста, могут поступить в послевузовскую школу под названием аспирантура.
