True sparrows (lat. Passer) is a genus of birds of the Sparrow family (Passeridae), a typical representative of which is the house Sparrow (Passer domesticus). Usually it is a small bird with a short tail and short powerful beak.Have strong, short, thick, conical, slightly bent beak, short legs, armed with weak claws, short rounded wings and a short, truncated, or slightly notched tail.

Настоя́щие воробьи́ (лат. Passer) — род птиц семейства воробьиных (Passeridae), типичным представителем которого является домовый воробей (Passer domesticus). Как правило, это небольшие птицы с коротким хвостом и коротким мощным клювом.Отличаются сильным, коротким, толстым, конусообразным, слегка согнутым клювом, короткими ногами, вооружёнными слабыми когтями, округлёнными короткими крыльями и коротким усечённым или слегка выемчатым хвостом.

Для воробьёв характерен половой диморфизм, заключающийся в том, что самцы и самки, как правило, окрашены различно; для самцов характерно чёрное горло.Являются оседлыми или кочующими птицами, а некоторые виды — перелётными. Многие виды синантропны, будучи тесно связанными с человеком и расселяющимися рядом с его жилищами и поселениями.Питаются семенами растений, являясь главным образом зерноядными птицами.
