Tolya said that they had had a grammar class the day before, that they had discussed the use of articles in English.
Vera said that there was no wonder, they were the shortest and yet the most difficult words in English.
Tolya said that he didn't think all English people understood how they should use articles.
Vera said that neither did she. In many cases they were a complete mystery. She asked him if he thought one could realize the difference between the articles. She wondered if it was possible to learn how to use them.
Tolya answered that he wasn't quite sure. He added that their teacher said it was and they should simply had more grammar drills.
Vera asked if they would really help and added that they were so boring.
Tolya said not to lose hope and to hope for the best.
