Считается, что первоначально означало "спутник", "соратник", "боевой товарищ" – вспомните слово "дружина" в русском.. .
А древнеславянское "дроужьба" означало близость, товарищество, общество.

И не стоит считать, что о любом слове можно сказать точно, откуда оно произошло.. . Многие слова настолько "древние", что их происхождение теряется в глубине тысячелетий...
