Moscow at the beginning of the XX century and Moscow now looks totally different. There was the Moskva river crossing the city but it wasn’t as big and pretty as it is now. There were factories on the river bank because it was the time when they started building a lot of them.

The streets were full of one-storey and two-storey houses and there was a market right in Red Square. People used to use horse carriages to move around the city but there were already a couple of tram lines at the beginning of the century.

Of course, the time before the revolution was tumultuous for Moscow and for Russia in general. A lot of popular upheaval were happening in the city: workers went on strike at the factories and their production was stopped. In these conditions nobody was thinking about culture development or architecture that’s why the city looked very industrial.
