The official name of the British Isles is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Its total area is 244.00 km^2
The territory of Great Britain is divided into 4 parts: England (London), Scotland (Edinburgh), Wales (Cardiff) and Northern Ireland (Belfast). England is in the southern and central part of Great Britain, Scotland is in the north of the island, Wales is in the western part and Northern Ireland is in the north-eastern Ireland.
The symbol of England is a rose, of Scotland – a thistle, of Wales – a daffodil and the emblem of Ireland is a shamrock and a hand.
The UK is an island state. There are 2 big and some small islands. The largest are Ireland and Great Britain. The Orkney and the Shetlands are in the north, the Hebrides are in the north-west. The Isle of Man is in the west and the Isle of Wight is in the south.
The territory is divided into Lowland and Highland Britain. Lowland includes southern and eastern England, Highland Britain comprises Scotland, Wales, the Pennines and the Lake District.

The climate of the UK is warm and soft because Gulf Stream is running across its shores. Most of the year the temperature ranges between 10 and 20° C. The main feature is fast changing of the weather because of the cyclones.
The UK is rich in oil, coal, kaolin, natural gas and zinc. There are big deposits of the lead.
