Task 1. Read the texts carefully. THE PUNKS The ideology of punks is quite simple: “Say “NO” to everything”. They are politically indifferent. They only want to express their individuality in a shocking way. They always wear dirty clothes and never wash themselves. They use vulgar language. Punk-Rock music is very loud and aggressive. But what makes punks be so aggressive? They are dissatisfied with their place in society. They behave aggressively to show that they don’t want to be treated only as weak segments of the society. Nowadays punks tend to disappear. If that weren’t so, punks would be a great problem to the society. THE FREESTYLERS Freestyle nowadays is the most numerous subculture in the world. Many boys and girls are freestylers: BMX-bikers, skaters, rollers- anybody attending extreme sports. They do everything that is dangerous for their life. Freestylers always wear wide breeches, caps or headscarves, sport boots. There are a lot of trends in music of freestylers: Drumm’n’Bass, Hip-Hop, Jungle, Breakbeat and some others. Freestylers’ ideology is a healthy life style. Thus they usually don’t smoke, don’t do drugs, don’t drink alcohol. They are not aggressive but extreme in Sports – all the time trying something new. The main social problem about them is that they always break their arms, legs, necks. THE PLASTICS All around the UK there are teenage girls that identify themselves as “Plastics”. The name comes from the 2004 Paramount Pictures film Mean Girls and applies to girls that care about their appearance – a lot. Before they leave the house, Plastics put on lots of jewellery and make-up. They always wear fashionable clothes and high heels, but never jeans or trainers. Plastics listen to pop music like Britney Spears and Beyoncé and they mostly enjoy spending time with their friends. The most important things for Plastics are friendship, make-up and fashion. And their favourite colour? Pink, of course! Select if the statements are TRUE or FALSE. 1. The main social problem about the punks is that they always break their arms, legs and necks. 2. The punks are dissatisfied with their place in society therefore they behave themselves aggressively. 3. The freestylers are extreme and do everything that is very dangerous for their life. 4. The freestylers’ ideology is to wear fashionable clothes. 5. The plastics often listen to punk, heavy metal music. 6. The punks never wash their clothes and use vulgar language. 7. The plastics always wear fashionable clothes, high heels and put on lots of jewellery and make-up.

What is the Internet for me? I can say Internet is my second home, not real, of course, but virtual. It’s a reality of modern life: we can’t imagine our existence without the use of www (World Wide Web). It’s a pity but people are obsessed with the idea of being online. And I’m not an exception. I use vkontakte, facebook, twitter, instagram. I’m an active user of all these social networking sites. I chat with my friends, play online games, listen to music and watch funny videos. I have the Internet in my phone. For one hand, it’s cool that I can watch news when I go by bus/train/metro. From the other hand, I notice that I’m keen on the Internet. If I have nothing to do, I open my phone/laptop and surf the Internet. Sometimes I don’t even take the time. The Internet impacts my life.

The Internet has pros and cons. Of course, for me the Internet is a great pleasure. Thanks, developers of it! But I understand that the Internet can influence us both positively and negatively. First of all I tell about a positive side of the Internet. I can communicate with any person from any part of the world. I have friends in various countries so it’s easy to talk with them by skype or viber for instance. The Internet helps me to prepare my lessons. I seek for additional material practically every day. I can find almost everything in the web. So cool, now I needn’t to spend many hours in libraries as my parents spent. I like shopping onlineand with the help of the Internet is a real pleasure. I order cloths and other items on aliexpress.

Now I’ll tell you about cons of the Internet. First of all it’s a kind of obsession. People (especially teenagers) can’t control themselves. They need to be all the time in the Internet. The Internet also blocks our brain (I think so sometimes). I can just take the composition from the Internet, transform it a little bit and the homework is ready. We need to think ourselves but nowadays we are too lazy to do this, the Internet can do everything for ourselves. It’s true.

The Internet is a great thing! I’m happy to live in the 21st century with all modern technologies and devices.

У интернета есть плюсы и минусы. Конечно, для меня интернет великое удовольствие его разработчикам J Но я понимаю, что интернет может влиять на нас как положительно, так и отрицательно. Сначала расскажу о положительном влиянии интернета. Я могу общаться с друзьями с любого уголка земли. У меня есть друзья в разных странах, с ними легко болтать при скайпа и вайбера, к примеру. Интернет мне подготовиться к занятиям. Я ищу дополнительную информацию практически каждый день. Я могу найти почти всё в интернете. Так круто, сейчас мне не нужно тратить часы в библиотеках, как это делали мои родители. Я люблю онлайн шопинг, и с интернета шопинг – огромное удовольствие. Я заказываю вещи на алиэкспресс.

Сейчас я расскажу о минусах интернета. Прежде всего, интернет – это зависимость. Люди (особенно тинэйджеры) не могут себя контролировать. Им просто необходимо всегда быть в интернете. Интернет также тормозит наш мозг (я так иногда думаю). Я могу взять сочинение в интернете, немного его подделать и всё: домашняя работа сделана. Нам нужно думать самим, но мы стали слишком ленивы делать это, интернет может сделать всё за нас. И это правда.

Интернет – великая вещь! Я счастлив (а), что живу в 21 веке с его современными технологиями и устройствами.
