Washington is the residence of the President and the Congress of the USA. All government departments and numerous federal institutions are housed in the capital. the White house is the President's residence and it is the oldest building of the city. The Capitol, the seat of the Congress is the other main center of the city. The two centers are connected by Pennsylvania Avenue, the main business street of the city. The majority of the state Departments are situated here. Washington, that belongs to the specially created Federal District of Columbia, is always used as the scene for mass demonstrations, and rallies.
