One of the most remarkable public events in my country is the Victory Day. It is traditionally celebrated on the 9th of May. This patriotic holiday commemorates the victory of the USSR over the Nazi Germany. Every year in honour of this day in all the cities across the country lots of cheerful parades and celebrations are held. Despite the fact that the holiday is celebrated in a cheerful way, May 9 is a sad day for the majority of our population. Many people have lost their beloved ones and close relatives during this ruthless war. On the one hand everyone is happy that the country wasn’t occupied by the fascist invaders, on the other hand everyone grieves over their loss. On this day we show that we are grateful to our saviours, to those who sacrificed their lives for us. That’s why we try to celebrate this day with honours. Some part of younger generation doesn’t understand the importance of this event, which I think is disrespectful. In my opinion, the Victory Day is one of the greatest holidays in our country. Some of my ancestors also took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1945, and I’m proud of them.
My role model is my mother
A mother is the closest and dearest person in the world. Mothers literally give their children life and the whole world. Mothers are our first and main educators and teachers.
My mother is a very good person. She is kind, although she can be strict, she is thoughtful and attentive, caring and fair. Mum has a wonderful sense of humor and she has almost no flaws. No wonder dad loves mum so much. She is not able to be angry or hold a grudge for a long time. I noticed this a long time ago, but I do not make use of it, on the contrary, I appreciate my mother even more. When I have difficulties, I know that my mother is always ready to help me with advice. If mum is not around, I always ask myself: what would she do in this or that situation? I think my mother is also a wise person. And I know that she is respected and appreciated by her colleagues.
I really want to be like my mother and sure enough I try to follow the example of her in my behaviour and attitude to life.
