Joan is a painter. she goes to the opening of every new art show in the city. she likes to see the latest works of the artists. right now she is  preparing for her own show of her new paintings next month. 2. a: what book are you reading b: it’s about spain. i think you would enjoy it. a: i see sailing ships on the cover. b: yes. it is about spanish exploration in the 17 go with me into town? b: no, thanks. i can’t. i am  waiting for my sister to call from the airport so that i can pick her up. 4. i work for an agricultural equipment company called agro. right now, agro is  trying to establish business contacts through-out europe. at the present time, our sales manager is  travelling in asia and talking to potential customers. he knows both chinese and arab. 5. jimmy: does the earth turn around and around? dad: yes, jimmy. the earth spins around and around it’s axis as it circles the sun. the earth is  spinning rapidly at this very moment. jimmy: i don't  feel anything. are you  trying to fool me? dad: of course not! do  you really think that the earth isnít moving? jimmy: i guess so. yes. i can’t see it move. yes. it isnít moving. dad: do you believe only those things that you can see? look at the trees out the window. all of them are  growing at this very moment, but you can’t see the growth. they are  getting bigger and bigger with every second that passes. you can’t see the trees grow, and you can’t feel the earth spin, but both events are  taking place at this moment while you and i are  speaking. jimmy: really? how do you know? 6. a: look at mary! where is she going and why is she  walking so fast? b: she is  rushing to meeting with the company vice-president. every  morning at this time, she submits a report on the previous dayís activities and presents the daily recommendations. a: but i usually hear the daily recommendations from the president himself at the ten o’clock stuff meetings. b: every day, the vice-president rewrites mary’s comments and takes them to the president. at every ten oíclock meeting, the president simply reads the same recommendations that mary stayed up working on the night before.
