A few years ago, I went on a long weekend to the Lake District in the UK. It is a very popular holiday destination in the north of England. I went on my own and had a wonderful time. I stayed in a youth hostel and met some nice people but the most memorable thing about the holiday was the breathtaking views and lovely picturesque villages. It can get very busy with lots of tourists so I decided to go out of season in the autumn. The weather was fantastic and the shops were full of local crafts. A great holiday! It’s certainly not the kind of short break for someone looking for a busy nightlife but if you want to relax in the middle of stunning landscape, I would certainly recommend a holiday to the Lake District.1. Long ago there lived an old married couple. They lived in a pretty clean house, round which flowers grew everywhere. But they were not happy because they were very lonely.
"If only we had a cat!" the old woman said. "Cat?", — asked the old man. "Yes, sweet little pussy," said the old woman. "I'll get you a cat, my dear," said the old man.
And he went over the mountains to find the cat. He walked for a long time and came to the mountain, covered with cats.
Cats here, cats there,
Cats and kittens everywhere,
Hundreds of cats,
Thousands of cats,
Millions, billions, trillions of cats.
"Oh!" fun cried the old man, "Now I smogonite the prettiest cat and take it home with you!" And he chose one cat. She was white. But suddenly he saw another, black-and-white cat, and he was just as beautiful. And he took this cat. And then he saw the gray kitten, who was as pretty as those cats, so the old man took him. But then he saw the black, very beautiful kitten. And the old man also took him with me. Suddenly he saw a brown and yellow cat. "I have to take it with you", cried the old man, and did so.
And so it was that every time the old man found a beautiful new cats have chosen them all. And then he went home to show his strushkevich these beautiful kittens.
They came to the pond. "Meow, meow! We're thirsty!", cry hundreds thousands millions billions trillions of cats.
"Now, there's a lot of water," said the old man. Each cat drank a little water, and the pond was empty!
"Meow, meow! Now we're hungry!" said hundreds, thousands, millions, billions, trillions of cats.
"On the hills grows a lot of grass," said the old man. Each cat ate a little, and there's nothing left.
The old woman saw them approaching the house. "Oh my God!"— she shouted, "What are you doing? I asked for one little cat, and what do I see?
