ndividual representation of interests»

In our time, we can observe a lot of psychological pressure from society to a person who is different from others. This is what we call discrimination and stigma.

The characteristic features of stigma are the following::

1.focus on the differences between people.

2.people with differences must be credited with negative qualities.

3.all people are divided into "US" and "them".

For example:

When accepting a child to school to determine the level of their intellectual abilities

the school administration generally organized testing. Depending on

based on the results of this test, it was decided whether to take a student to a regular school or send them to a specialized educational institution for children with a delay

mental development and learning problems. Representatives of the least integrated ethnic minority, such as

both linguistically and culturally, there were significant difficulties in passing these tests.

Therefore, from 50% to 90% of children according to the results of this test every year

they were sent to study in specialized educational institutions.

This is indirect discrimination in situations where at first glance the law,

the rule or procedure is the same for everyone, but at the same time it puts

a certain group of people or a person is at a disadvantage and restricts their rights.

Direct discrimination involves decisions, actions or omissions leading to

in the case when a person and / or group of persons according to their specific characteristics are referred to as

less favourable than to others in a similar situation.

Therefore, as we have discussed in the examples, stigma and discrimination lead to

restriction or violation of human rights, uneven access to public services

resources and services, creating unfavorable conditions, humiliating human dignity.

Social work is focused on removing the "stigma", takes measures to counteract it

discrimination and defense of the rights of socially vulnerable categories of the population.

To ensure effective measures to combat stigma and discrimination work should

lead simultaneously in several directions:

1. at the policy level

2. no community level

3. at the organization level

4. on an individual level

In social work, representation of interests and protection of clients ' rights is the leading task

place. Today there are different approaches to defining the concept of representation of interests

clients. According to one of the models representation of interests is divided into 2 types –

system representation and individual

representative office.

The social worker, analyzing the situation, understands that independently without support

it cannot affect the system, laws, policies, or the availability of a social service network

to replace her. Therefore, there is a need to create a request for the necessary change. And thus

there is a link between individual representation of interests and system representation.

A social worker may be an intermediary authorized by a court that

helps you collect data and investigate certain circumstances.

In order to represent interests a social worker must be well trained

and be able to state , explain the situation, problem, state of Health verbally or with

using recorded words and images. And it is also a social task

the employee teaches the person self-defense in this way.

Self-representation provides an opportunity for people:

- take control of your life, including, including responsibility for

own care and medical assistance, if necessary;

- reduce people's isolation;

- change the stigmatizing attitude of society towards certain groups of customers.

Since the 1960s in Sweden, Great Britain, USA, Denmark, Japan and a number of others

the movement of self-representation of people with mental retardation was organized.

One of the most famous organizations "People First" (People First), within which

there are self-help groups. These organizations are still active, active and protect the rights of their employees.

members.

And others .
