Кобыз

Кобыз – смычковый музыкальный инструмент с двумя волосяными струнами. Он выдалбливался из одного цельного куска дерева – можжевельника (арша), клена, сосны, березы. Инструмент состоял как бы из трех частей: головной (бас), средней (основание - кеуде) и нижней (аяк). Основание делается в виде открытой чаши, вытянутой книзу. Эта нижняя часть инструмента затягивается кожей (дека). На ней устанавливается подставка (тиек). Струны для кобыза до сих пор изготавливаются из конского хвоста. Смычок имеет дугообразную форму и напоминает лук: к двум концам изогнутой ветки привязывается пучок конского волоса и скрепляется крепкой нитью из верблюжьей шерсти. Исполнитель обхватывает смычок сбоку своей ладонью. Шаманский инструмент выглядел весьма необычно: головка венчалась перьями филина, была обвешена различными металлическими пластинками в виде роговых завитков, фигур птиц, которые звенели в такт музыке; на дне чаши помещалось зеркало. Все это были не просто украшения, а шаманские знаки – символы. Кобыз обладает необыкновенно богатым и красочным тембром.

Жетыген

Жетыген - древний семиструнный щипковый инструмент, напоминающий по форме гусли или лежачую арфу. Наиболее древний тип жетыгена представлял собой продолговатый ящик, выдолбленный из куска древесины. На таком жетыгене не было ни верхней деки, ни колков. Струны натягивались рукой с наружной стороны инструмента. Позднее верхняя часть жетыгена была накрыта деревянной декой. Под каждую струну подставляли с двух сторон асыки. Передвигая их, можно было подстраивать струну. Если асыки сближали, строй повышался, раздвигали – понижался. Настройка струн производится колками и передвижением подставок.
