Қазақ тілінде қосымша жалғау, жұрнақ болып екіге бөлінеді. Сөз мағынасын өзгертетін қосымшаны жұрнақ дейміз: жұмыс – жұмысшы, ойын – ойыншық, оқу - шы, бала - лы, орын - дық, сыр - мақ т.б.
Ал сөз бен сөзді байланыстыратын қосымшаны жалғау дейміз: жұмыс – жұмыста, ойын – ойынға, дәптер – дәптерді, көше – көшеде.
Қазақ тілінде жалғаудың 4 түрі бар:
1. Септік жалғау;
2. Көптік жалғау;
3. Тәуелдiк жалғау;
4. Жіктік жалғау.
Қазақ тіліндегі жұрнақ мағынасы мен қызметіне қарай екіге бөлінеді:
1. сөз тудыратын жұрнақтар өзі жалғанған сөзінен жаңа сөз тудырады. Мысалы, “жылқы - шы”, “біл - ім”, “жасы - қ”, “таға - ла”;
2. сөз түрлендіретін жұрнақтар өзі жалғанған сөзіне үстеме мағына қосып, сөздің тұлғасын өзгертеді. Мысалы, “көк-шіл”, “көк(г) - ірек”, “сары - лау”, “сары - рақ”, “жаз - ып”, “жаз - ғалы”. Жұрнақтар сөзге белгілі бір жүйеде рет - ретімен жалғанады.
Түбірге тете сөз тудыратын жұрнақтар, одан кейін сөз түрлендіретін жұрнақтар, бұлардан соң жалғаулар орналасады. Жұрнақтар түбірге де, туынды сөзге де жалғанады (“бас - шы”, “басшы - лық”, “ұйы - м”, “ұйым – дас – тыр – у – шы”).
Достық (жұрнақ) Адамдардың достығы әдетте жыл өткен сайын беки түседі.
Досым (жалғау) Менің досымның есімі - Арнұр.
