Мы, взрослые, очень часто говорим детям правильные фразы о природе, а сами порой на их глазах делаем такое, от чего детские души содрогаются.

Однажды я с группой соседских детей находился в лесу. Мы сидели на лесной полянке и до сладкой боли в груди радовались прелестям природы. Высоко в небе показался большой косяк диких гусей. Он шел по прямой, раздвигая острой грудью себе путь. Вдруг лесную тишину нарушили выстрелы, но косяк как ни в чем не бывало продолжал свой путь. И только одна птица нарушила строй, быстро замахала крыльями, стала спускаться все ниже, ниже и упала за озером, в камышах. Затаив дыхание, мы до конца проводили ее печальными взглядами. А через несколько минут из камышей показался человек — он держал за шею окровавленную птицу...

Где-то я читал у Сухомлинского, что тот, кто любит, охраняет природу и все живое, никогда не станет предателем Родины, не станет на плохой путь, не обидит человека, не унизит его достоинство. Значит, воспитывая любовь к природе, мы воспитываем любовь и преданность матери-Родине, в то же время доброту, порядочность.

Многие годы я знаю Лидию Николаевну Хорошурину и не перестаю восхищаться ее постоянным внимательным и бережным общением с природой. Свое искусство понимать, уважать, любить и беречь природу учительница Л. Н. Хорошурина передала многим молодым людям и своим сыновьям Александру и Виктору — курсантам Калининградского военного авиационно-технического училища, которые стали достойными сынами нашей Родины. Помню, как еще мальчиками они посадили у своего дома березы.
