Dear Mum and Dad. I (a) begin to feel quite nervous now about my climb to the top of Everest. However, I think I (b) shall do all that I can to prepare myself and I do feel very fit, but is it enough? To be perfectly honest with you both, I'm absolutely terrified. As part of our training we (d) are learning how to survive in sub-zero conditions which (e) is not much fun. At night we (f) are staying in all kinds of strange places! Tonight we (g) shall sleep at the base camp. I often (h) dream about my warm bed back home and Mum's cooking! I (i) haven't seen you for 4 months now, but it (j) feels like 4 years. It's wonderful to get your letters and hear your news. I (k) have told everyone how hot it (l) was in England this summer, but they don't believe me. And I (m) am trying to imagine all the summer colours in our garden in York, because of course the only colour here is white. It (n) has been snowing a lot recently, so conditions are a little dangerous. Today's a rest day. Some guys (o) are sunbathing because believe it or not it gets very hot here around midday. Other people (p) are checking our equipment, which is a job we have to do all the time. You (q) mentioned in your last letter that you are thinking of selling the house. Please wait untill I (s) get home before you (t) make any decisions. Our house is so beautiful, I'd be really upset if you sold it. Anyway, it's 8 p.m., and my bedtime. I always (u) get up at 4 a.m. so I'm usually in bed by 8.30 p.m. at the latest. I'd love )v) to lie in my bed at home right now. Anyway, I'm not! Take care of yourselves. Love. David.
