Питання «ким є для тебе Ісус Христос?» є центральним питанням віри, і також ння, від відповіді на це питання залежить вічне життя. Як бачимо з відповіді Петра і пояснення Ісуса Христа, цю відповідь неможливо дати без до Божої благодаті. Віра в Ісуса Христа є цілковитим даром Божим(пор. 1 Кор 12,3), і тому також необхідно про цей дар молитися… Інше питання, на яке ми повинні відповісти в своєму житті є не менш важливим, ніж питання про особу Ісуса Христа. Воно стосується того, в який б Ісус Христос має відкупити нас. Ісус Христос відверто про це говорить своїм учням: «З того часу Ісус почав виявляти своїм учням, що йому треба йти в Єрусалим і там багато страждати від старших, первосвящеників та книжників, і бути вбитим, і на третій день воскреснути» (Мт 16, 21). Хресна Жертва Ісуса Христа – це одночасно і єдиний шлях і дорога ціна нашого ння (пор. 1 Кор 6, 20; 1 Кор 7, 23). Ти мені спокуса, бо думаєш не про Боже, а про людське» (Мт 16, 23), натомість деякі перекладачі говорять, що сенс цих слів наступний: «Стань за Мною (щоб Мене наслідувати), бо зараз ти стоїш переді Мною і перешкоджаєш Мені (сатано) у виконанні Божої волі».
