Maria Sklodovska was born in Warsaw in 1867. She learnt her first lessons in science from her father, who was a teacher of science and mathematics. She wanted to study at the Sorbonne in Paris and she did it in 1891. There she worked for 2 Master's degrees-in physics and mathematics. She didn't have enough money to live on but nothing could stop her.In Paris she met a 35-year-old scientist Pierre Curie. They became close friends and in1895 they got married. They had two daughters.By that time Maria Curie had already got her Master's degrees in physics and mathematics and wanted to get a Doctor's degree. The Curies were interested in a metal called uranium and its rays. Uranium became the subject  for Maria's Doctor's thesis.
